Born in Carrilobo, Argentina, Gustavo Porta began his studies at his
hometown conservatory and completed further training at the Istituto
Superiore d’Arte del Tetro Colon in Buenos Aires.

In 1996 Mr. Porta made his debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and
shortly after appeared at the Teatro Argentino de la Plata and the Teatro El
Circulo di Rosario in Argentina.

Mr. Porta moved to Italy in 1999 and made his European debut in Carmen in
Padua. After a 2001 debut in I Vespri Siciliani in Darmstadt, the young
artist’s career took off, resulting in more engagements in theaters in Italy
and abroad in many works of the lyric and spinto repertoires and where he
had the opportunity to work with important directors such as Franco
Zeffirelli (Aida in Rome and Florence) and Pierluigi Pizzi (Aroldo in
Piacenza). He has collaborated with many distinguished conductors: Richard
Bonynge (I lombardi alla prima crociata at Colón Buenos Aires), Rafael
Frühbeck de Burgos (Carmen in Tel Aviv and La vida breve in Oslo and Bergen)
and Yves Abel (Carmen in Cagliari). The artist also made notable Spanish
debuts at the Teatro Real in Madrid with La dolores by Bretón and at the
Barcelona Liceu in Puccini's Le Villi.

2006 included Mr. Porta’s Il Trovatore debut at the Avenches Festival in
Switzerland and marked the beginning of his collaboration with the Deutsche
Oper Berlin where he appeared in Puccini's Manon Lescaut and Franchetti's
Germania (both under the baton of Renato Palumbo), Gnecchi's Cassandra
Verdi's Aida. He was also heard as Foresto in Attila (Petruzzelli in
Bari), Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West (Prague National Theatre) and
Andrea Chénier was also added to his vast repertoire. Invitations followed
from Germany (Tosca in Frankfurt, Manon Lescaut in Leipzig and again Aida at
Deutsche Oper Berlin), Switzerland (Giovanna D'Arco by Verdi in St. Gallen)
and France (Fedra by Pizzetti at the Montpellier Festival).

After Porta's successful debut at the Maggio Musicale in Florence with Tosca
and Cavalleria Rusticana, in the past season Mr. Porta has continued to
appear on major German and Europeans stages (Frankfurt, Berlin, Leipzig,
Palermo, Warsaw, Budapest, to name a few) in Carmen, Madama Butterfly,
Tosca, Cavalleria Rusticana, Manon Lescaut and Simon Boccanegra.

Mr. Porta opened the 2009/2010 season with Boito's Mefistofele, a role which
he will repeat in Montpellier after an appearance as Cavaradossi in
Düsseldorf in March. He will also appear as Turiddu at the Deutsche Oper am
Rhein in summer 2010 and as Cavaradossi in May and June 2010. In 2011 the
artist has been invited to appear in Japan in Manon Lescaut at the New
National Theatre in Tokyo.
